Since 2020, the association « Les Sacrés Compagnons » has been offering a second chance to so-called farm animals that were once in distress. Hens, pigs, goats and sheep; cats, dogs, rabbits, and even turtledoves: about 150 residents now find refuge in this sanctuary, where they are cared for with great attention until the end of their lives. The association’s members work every day of the year to meet the specific needs of each species and to ensure the health and wellbeing of every animal in their care.
The association also offers educational and immersive activities tailored for different age groups, with the aim of raising awareness amongst a wide audience about our relationship with other animals. By demonstrating that, just like us, animals have their own consciousness, intelligence, and personality, the members of “Les Sacrés Compagnons” hope to change the way we collectively view them, hence moving from a relationship of domination to one of connection.
Beyond animal welfare, the association is also committed to the conservation of natural habitats and respect for all lifeforms. Being a haven of biodiversity amidst pesticide-treated monoculture fields, the sanctuary serves as a refuge for the surrounding wildlife. It includes, for example, hedgerows made up of species suited to the local soil and climate, designed to provide shelter and food sources for birds and insects, as well as for foxes and other mammals.
